Congratulations on your new fibreglass home swimming pool! Perhaps you’re planning a party in the honour of getting a new home pool installed.

Well, in that case, it’s time to plan your menu for the big event – and what makes a pool party more fun, than the delicious drinks you serve? Imagine you and your loved ones, lounging in the pool, with a glass of cool cocktail in your hands and plates of hors d’oeuvres being passed around, amidst laughter and games.

How wonderful does that sound?

So, in this article, we will list some of the best cocktails you can whip up, which will elevate your pool party to the next level. Let’s dive right in.

1. Mojito

This classic cocktail is a must-have no matter what party you’re having. It’s a drink that most people love and you’ll find it being guzzled down by your loved ones as quickly as you make them.

This minty cocktail is super easy to make –

Crush mint leaves and add them to a glass filled with crushed ice. Pour in 5cl of rum (white, amber or Cuban). Stir in 2 teaspoons of brown sugar and add your preferred amounts of water, lemonade or (if you’re feeling particularly fancy) champagne. Add half a piece of lime and you’re done.

2. Long Island Iced Tea

A pool party without iced tea? It’s unheard of.

That’s why our second pick – which is again a crowd favourite – is the Long Island Iced Tea (LIIT). This is a brilliant cocktail for both pool brunches and evening parties. LIIT is relatively easy to whip up as well. All you need to do is –

Get a cocktail shaker and fill it with crushed ice. Add in about 15ml of dark rum, white rum, tequila, gin, vodka, Campari, triple sec, Jägermeister and whiskey each. You can even include some Red Bull for that extra punch. Then, add a teaspoon of vanilla syrup (increase the quantity if you want the LIIT to be really sweet). Add a store-bought soda to your drink and squeeze a dash of lime on top. Shake the entire mixture and pour it into a long glass.

With this delicious LIIT in their hands, your party will be LIT!

3. Margarita

Another party cocktail that your guests would love to sip on is the Margarita. It’s super easy to make a scrumptious pitcher of this drink. Be sure to follow this recipe –

Get 1 ounce Cointreau, 1.5 ounces tequila and 0.5-ounce lime juice ready and pour it into a pitcher. Pour in crushed ice or cold sparkling water and cool it in the fridge. You can even shake the recipe before cooling it. After it’s chilled, take the cocktail out and pour it into a glass that is salt-rimmed. It’s that easy!

The best part about making a Margarita is that you can make it in any flavour you want. The above recipe is the classic margarita. But, you can also add fruit juices in your preferred flavour to make it a flavoured margarita.

4. Spritz

This divine orange cocktail looks as fabulous as it tastes. This Venetian recipe has been passed down over the decades because of how light & fresh and bitter & earthy it tastes at the same time.

Here’s how you can create some Spritz for your home pool party today –

Get yourself about 50 ml of Campari or Aperol. Then, add about 75 ml of dry Prosecco. To this, add 50 ml of chilled sparkling water. The mixture is ready to pour into a white wine glass. Remember to place 3 ice cubes in the glass before you pour in your Spritz. You can cut a thin slice of orange and pierce it through the glass, to give your cocktail an aesthetic appeal.

5. Pina Colada

The perfect summer cocktail, the Pina Colada is delicious to drink and super easy to make. This cocktail is also very filling and gives “vacation-y” vibes. When lounging in your pool on their float, with a pina colada in their hand, your friends may forget this is a home pool and think they’re at a beach in some tropical resort. How exciting is that?

Well, before the daydreams distract you, here is a recipe for a pina colada, that you can whip up in just minutes –

Set aside 1 stick of cinnamon and 1 grated nutmeg. Add 25 cl of white rum to a glass and pour about 400 ml of coconut milk or coconut cream into it. Add 1 litre of pineapple juice to the mix and also mix in 1/2 litre of banana juice. Add in the cinnamon and nutmeg and give the cocktail a stir – and you’re done. Your pina colada is ready to be enjoyed by everyone at your home swimming pool party.

6. Sangria

No pool party is ever complete without the classic Sangria. It’s a drink that every poolside brunch has to have as a rule (well, our rule, that is). Sangria is a delicious and sweet drink, that’s also pretty healthy thanks to all the fruits that are loaded into it. Your health-conscious friends may appreciate your having this cocktail on the menu. So, here’s how you can make some sangria for your party –

Cut up a couple of oranges, apples, mangoes and strawberries into small pieces. Mix them into a bowl and set aside. (You can use other fruits too, to make the sangria suit your taste or to champion local, seasonal fruits.) Next, pour 3 tablespoons of water into a pan and add ¼ cup sugar. Boil and mix the liquid until it becomes syrup. Then cool the syrup down.

Take the cut fruits and pour them into a pitcher. Crush them just a tiny bit, to release the fruity flavours. Then add about 1 litre of red wine into the pitcher. Add ¼ cup of brandy and top this with about ¼ of the syrup you had just made (add more if you like the sangria to be sweeter). Refrigerate the Sangria for a few hours and add 2-3 cups of club soda and stir well, before serving them in a red wine glass.

That’s it.
